The Twin Flame Journey As Told by Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson
TGIF Includes: Our Spider-Man Twin Flame Theory, Twin Film List, and My Personal Tarot Reading on Twin Flame
The TGIF Post varies from New Music Friday releases, Retro Fixation, film reviews, The Audio Files, and so much more in pop culture adjacency. We’re happy to have you; get into it below.
In 1962, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created a more practical and realistic superhero by introducing Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15— a beloved character, not just personally speaking but globally.
Gifting us a remarkable character with Peter Parker, a timid and bullied high school student from Queens with a secret identity, won over hearts everywhere as a leading comic protagonist instead of the usual sidekick with a hero mentor during the sixties. It wasn’t just Peter’s alienation that’s felt; Spider-Man goes much deeper with powerful themes like “self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness.” Kids and grown-ups everywhere resonated with Spidey (arguably, Spider-Man is Marvel’s most recognized hero, along with the Hulk, pre-MCU).
After countless films, Peter’s origin story’s ingrained in our memories; Peter’s given spider-like powers and emerges taut and athletic, albeit still himself, which is the science-loving nerd. Yet, after a horrific personal tragedy, Peter’s internally torn up by his guilt that he becomes a vigilante to avenge his beloved uncle Ben. Playing heavily into the very fiber of what makes Peter Parker’s ‘everyman’ superhero alluring, he traveled by bus, was a struggling student, and was financially broke more often than not. The films also dip into the comic’s socialist themes of anti-corporate threads (Peter; working-class/socialism = Tony Stark; capitalism benefiting from its privileges), although hidden beneath the film’s advertising sponsorship. Even if you’re not an MCU fan, there’s a nostalgic affinity for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy or, at the very least, two of them. Primarily due to Raimi truly capturing the incredible story arc within, more than just heroes, the heart of Spider-Man is Peter and MJ’s love story— especially within the magic of the sequel.
Spider-Man 2 sees my favorite proletariat hero down on his luck; despite Peter still being in love with MJ, he still decides to remain friendly to protect her from harm. Meanwhile, his beloved MJ is flourishing with a blossoming stage and modeling career. Suffering and feeling all of his inner traumas (uncle Ben’s murder and betrayal of mentor Norman Osborne) meant he had to release his ego to become whole again. Accept his destiny and ascend to greatness, not only as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man but also as his joint journey with his twin flame, MJ.
🔗 What is a Twin Flame?
A twin flame is an intense soul connection, sometimes called a “mirror soul,” thought to be a person's other half. It’s based on the idea that sometimes one soul gets split into two bodies; one of the main characteristics of a twin flame relationship is that it will be both challenging and healing.
This is due to the mirroring nature of a twin flame; they show you your deepest insecurities, fears, and shadows. But they also help you overcome them and vice versa—your twin flame will be equally affected by you.Importantly, licensed psychotherapist Babita Spinelli says, “There is a misnomer that a twin flame completes you; in reality, relationships are meant to encourage you to be more complete in your own right.”
Unlike soul mates, the most significant distinction is that twin flames are two halves of the same whole or part of the same soul group. A soul mate is someone cut from the same cloth; friends, family, or lovers can be soul mates. However, twin flames are far more intense than soul mates with magnetism to each other even with vast physical distance. They instantly feel drawn to the others’ comforting presence that feels like “home.”
For instance, Peter and Gwen Stacy are soul mates cut from the same Science loving cloth and other mirroring passions, whereas Peter and MJ are opposites that reflect the shortcomings of the other; this makes for a confusing time with high emotions. A contrasting Yin and Yang harmony counterpart is a notable sign of a twin flame relationship. Although not vital, this explains Peter and MJ.
Peter’s described as a timid and bookish nerd with a nerdy penchant for STEM; Mary Jane is a bubbly, outspoken firecracker, friendly borderline flirty energy, and loves the arts. Despite their differential counterparts, MJ will always be Peter Parker’s most genuine love— and twin flame.

When twin flames come together, the spark is undeniable and electric. Nevertheless, the twin flame odyssey isn’t a fairy tale or complete without stormy weather. Hence, their fighting is plenty of clashing egos, misread signs, and ignoring intuition (Pete ignoring his spidey senses) which causes friction and a main dividing factor; separation phase(s).
Through the separation phase, either emotionally or physically, there will be a runner and chaser dynamic (MJ is the runner in Spider-Man, making Peter the runner in Spider-Man 2). Yet even with bumps in the journey, the universe still gives you clues and literal signs that one or both twins are on the path of transformation with synchronicity and alignments everywhere. Usually, the more spiritually aligned twin often picks up on the universe’s signs, like twin flame number sequences (seeing repeating numbers). As time fluctuates from days or long periods, twin flames are connected even with experiencing a disconnect; this is when the endless cyclical loops of ‘what if’ and emotional turmoil occurs because neither can explain the intense feelings.
We see that MJ and Peter; both feel immense empathy and telepathy sparks, sensing their twin flame’s emotions or even thought patterns of thinking of the other (wildly evident in the detailed theatrical cut, Spider-Man 2.1).
As psychotherapist Babita Spinelli stated above, each twin needs to heal inner traumas and silence their inner critic and ego within themselves; only this emotional shadow work to forgive each other (and most importantly, themselves). Welcoming opportunities to be emotionally strong yet vulnerable when confronted with their twin’s (and own) insecurities, self-loathing, faults, judgments, and self-worth.
From my extensive research and the constructive guidance of my dear friend Perla, I learned that this is a helping factor in overcoming challenges, as presented later head-on. Primarily, the process of twin flame healing and doing the transformative inner shadow work to confront uncomfortable truths about yourself; without this essential step, a twin flame relationship won’t work.
It’s a long-term inner healing process, but the biggest reward and lesson you can do is for both yourself and your twin to heal past wounds. This step is crucial to the twin flame’s journey towards ascension, for a higher egalitarian life purpose, and reaching the union stage, Peter and Mary Jane’s intricate and spidery love story.
Peter misinterprets his destiny as Spider-Man as a choice (and by proxy denying MJ); he hits emotional walls, literally and figuratively. He ignores the signs, and as life seemingly improves, he quickly realizes that he’s still miserably unhappy.
Peter is overwhelmingly confused and consumed with his emotions; he vocalizes his emotional anguish during meditative moments; by verbalizing his wants, he’s unknowingly manifesting his desires. Meanwhile, MJ continually faces her troubles. Such as her abandonment issues of emotional abuse stemming from childhood (MJ briefly mentions her abusive father in Spider-Man 2.1) causes her to seek destructive relationships and self-preservation that only hinders her.
MJ misinterprets Peter’s self-preservation of using distance to save her from himself (and physical harm), causing MJ to project her frustrations and insecurities onto Pete— both are wildly in love but inadvertently hurting the other by denying each other. Peter pushes MJ away, and vice versa, after MJ’s engagement since behavior is far more excusable than revealing true feelings; this fear is fear from themselves; as I’ve learned, both twins feel insecure about the same thing. Rejection. They can’t get hurt if they don’t act on their feelings. Yet both experience an emotional reckoning, otherwise known as ‘The Dark Night of the Soul.’
The Dark Night of the Soul is a period of spiritual transformation and growth from deep pain within ourselves; for Peter, he disposed of his Spidey suit on that stormy night. By thinking all of his problems would go away by ignoring his feelings, but mainly with the help of his guardian angel on earth, Aunt May, Peter has an epiphany and begins to put in the inner work on himself. Realizing that even though people are terrible, there’s nobility in self-sacrificing for humankind to evolve.
Peter finds his inner strength to utilize his great power and comes into his own once again; his cosmic and heroic destiny unknowingly sets forth a rippling emotional effect with Mary Jane’s own eureka moment.
Peter and Mary Jane agree to a coffee date to discuss, with a delicate understanding and no judgments or hierarchies within the dynamic— confronting their feelings and releasing control of the dynamic as both tried to do before. Trying to control or manipulate will only distort the connection; MJ lays all her cards on the table, relinquishes her ego, and confesses her love to Peter even though his heart and eyes tell a different story. Peter fears Mary Jane won’t accept his darkest secret or, far worse, get hurt because of Spider-Man, so Peter pushes her away.
Unable to relinquish control while still trying to regain control, Pete is dead center in the eye of an emotional and physical storm, causing his Spidey-Sense to tingle like never before. Coming face to face with losing Mary Jane to a relationship with someone else was always a factor. Still, he finally realizes that MJ will be in grave danger regardless, simply because she’s someone important in his life. Peter gets slammed into a wall and essentially forgoes his ego to accept his destiny, which is both Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson— with great power comes great responsibility; this is true in all aspects of life, including love.
Regardless of their differences and life paths, Peter and Mary Jane are undeniable twin flames to come together time after time and through great distances apart to come together and heal— even through parallel universes, Peter and Mary Jane are eternal.

Naturally, as a curious mind keen to learn new things, I went with my intuition and got my first ever Tarot reading. Unsure of what to expect since I had only recently discovered the twin flame concept. Yet, I felt compelled to get my first-ever Tarot reading despite my apprehension conditioned by a strict religious upbringing. Recently familiar with the twin flame concept, I reached out to a ‘Tarot Fairy’ to inquire about Twin Flames.
🔮 The Reading
Here’s your reading, sparkling heart:
So I’m getting here that the both of you will reconcile sometime in the future; especially if separated for a while. There will be something new and exciting for this connection. As well as an opportunity for renewal in this relationship, where are you and your person cannot go past mistakes or wrongs and be open to one another and open your heart to each other to bring joy, harmony, and contentment.
I feel like this connection is going through some transformation; old patterns stop this connection from moving forward right now. You or your person may be holding onto the past. Things will change whether you want them to or not, and you can either resist the change in this connection or embrace it.
You or person could also be hiding their feelings from you; there’s an intense bond between you. This bond fluctuates more than you can imagine. I’m also getting that you or your person have taken the need to take a step back to assess options or where you want the relationship to lead; Spirit asks you to hold off on making any decisions and give yourself time to think things through.
So I got here that this person wants to make a move but fear holds them back; there’s been dishonesty and hiding full truths to spare feelings. I did feel like this person is a bit impatient, impulsive, and focused on establishing material gain than to reach out to project a stable foundation or offer. They also feel like they want to fight for this again; with the five swords in reverse, there’ll be an end to some conflict. This person wants no bad blood with you in terms of what has happened. They want to learn how to compromise and communicate with you about what they want; they want this to last.
Also, I did feel twin flame energy or soulmate energy. I’m getting here that this person feels a lot of sadness towards connection, they have a lot of regrets towards you, perhaps they’ve done something in the past. They might not be ready to commit now; they need a bit of time and space to consider the pros and cons of the situation and how the both of you can come to an agreement. They’re reluctant to decide on this matter because they risk being vulnerable, they might have abandonment issues towards both energies.
Spirit is advising you to work on yourself right now; they do think about this connection a lot, it does cross through their mind, and I’m also getting they could even be having dreams about you and vice versa. Don’t miss the signs that the universe is trying to send you to watch out for those; these can be dreams or reoccurring numbers. I see you overcoming previous struggles and improving in terms of this connection; many positive changes will be coming towards both of you.
My thoughts were reeling after this reading. Overthinking and overanalyzing comes naturally, but I’m better at working on myself with the help of cognitive therapy and (now) meditation. Since ending a longtime friendship that ended toxically, I’ve written about my emotional journey and experiences, such as my grieving period. I felt reassured and spiritually comforted since I’ve never been one to stress or prioritize dating. The idea of casually dating someone with whom I don’t see potential ignites my social anxiety. I’m not particularly eager to spend time with someone if I don’t feel chemistry with or see a future— having learned that lesson the hard way in my twenties. While I’m not sure yet what the future holds, I’m excited to see what’s next in all aspects of my life, Per Aspera ad Astra, through hardships to the stars.
This weekend, I’ll be watching comfort films during my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine. Stay safe out there and get vaxxed for yourself but also others. Also, please, wear your masks; we’re still in a pandemic. 💘
