Youthquake here, your one and only source into the nostalgia of the pop culture elite (past & present).
Pop Culture Cold Brew is a Monday feature of my sardonic weekly wrap-up of celebrity chaos and other current pop culture happenings like film teasers/trailers and more.
Here are the latest teasers and trailers for your unadulterated pleasure.
🎥 a Cher Biopic

NOT a drill; on the eve of celebrating her birthday, Cher announced on Twitter that a movie biopic of her life is in the works with Universal Pictures. The untitled biopic will be written by Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth (Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump, A Star is Born, and more recently, producer of Mank). Judy Craymer will produce the film (MAMMA MIA! The Movie, MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again) and Gary Goetzman (the MAMMA MIA! films, News of the World, Greyhound), and of course my forever Diosa, Cher.
A dystopian story seemingly ripped from headlines of the politically chaotic times. While protests rage in the streets, Marianne and her family are privileged to live their high society lives as they prepare for her wedding day. Then mysterious green splatters of paint appear along with a former employee, Rolando, seeking emergency medical funds. An inevitable clash of the class system follows with the film’s vision of a disintegrating government. New Order is playing in theaters where available.
Steven Soderbergh is back, fresh from his 2020 film, Let Them All Talk. His latest film, No Sudden Move, was announced as the Centerpiece Gala selection for the upcoming 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
The film cast is stacked and includes Don Cheadle, Benicio del Toro, David Harbour, Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Noah Jupe, Craig muMs Grant, Bill Duke, Julia Fox, and Frankie Shaw.
⚡ Instead of exploiting the frankly oversaturated celebrity culture and the American obsession with fame, CCS is our contemplation on why can’t we get enough and why we love not minding our own business.
Iconic Sex and the City costume designer, Pat Field, isn’t coming back for the SATC reboot, And Just Like That. Instead, she’s going with her prior work commitment to the Netflix series, Emily in Paris— currently filming. It’s certainly a choice, but stepping up for the Manolo challenge is Molly Rogers, who worked under Field on the original series, Ugly Betty, and the cult classic, The Devil Wears Prada.
Geriatric Millennials and Disney over-obsessed adults rejoice! Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker are all signed on for the Hocus Pocus sequel.
Notorious ex-baseball player thirsty for Jennifer Lopez’s attention calls out a fellow embarrassing notorious ex-baseball-playing philanderer in a tweet. 2021 is wild so far.
Pop culture royalty Bennifer 2.0 (they’re also Bennifer 1.0; with all due respect to the wonderfully wholesome Jennifer Garner, they were known as ‘Ben and Jen’) continues to fuel romance rumors as they were seen spotted in Miami. It’s not news, but as someone who remembered the absolute dominance this power couple had in the early aughts, it’s going to be an exciting development, especially considering ‘excessive media attention’ as the reason the duo broke up back in 2003. Ben Affleck may be a Boston bro, but he didn’t publically humiliate J.Lo, like her exes; he even played the doting video vixen boyfriend for her hit song Jenny from the Block (pictured above). So if you loved BenAna was during season one of the pandemic, you’d love the blueprint, which is Bennifer.
Making it more interesting is ARod’s a famous ex-Yankee player, while Ben Affleck is a mega Red Sox fan. Ben even shut down production in David Fincher’s Gone Girl over a Yankees cap. Lol, men. So it’s like Edward vs. Jacob, despite never watching Twilight (I know enough).
As the daughter of a contractor, I love seeing home designs. For whatever reason, I kind of love Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s aversion to the L.A. mansion scene with their sustainable farmhouse mansion. Their shiplap Pinterest farmer chic look paired with that giant oversized crystal chandelier is a fascinating choice; it says we’re not like a regular Hollywood couple but still have more money than you’ll see in your life. It seems like it could be in an atmospheric A24 horror production or maybe a Darren Aronofsky film.
“We wanted a home, not an estate,” Kunis insists, describing the six-acre property that now accommodates a main house connected to a guesthouse/entertainment barn, as well as a freestanding barbecue pavilion, all arrayed along a central axis elaborately plotted to capture the beguiling views from, between, and through the various structures. “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant,” Kutcher elaborates.
I’ll be swamped this week as my sister is being induced bright and early this morning; that’s right, I’m bringing a proud auntie energy for the fifth time. Additionally, I’ll be babysitting my two nieces for the day while working from home; please send your thoughts and prayers. I’ll need them. Thankfully the new Olivia Rodrigo album can keep me company. My millennial ears are delighted.
With love, your noughtie girl 💘
