Pop Culture Cold Brew
Contents Inside The Monday Post Include: Celebrity Chaos Synopsis, Trailer Round-Up, Tribeca Festival Announcement, & More
Youthquake here, your one and only source into the nostalgia of the pop culture elite (past & present).
On top of fun content, it’s my sardonic weekly wrap-up of all the week’s celebrity chaos and other current pop culture happenings like trailers/film announcements and more.
⚡ Instead of exploiting the frankly oversaturated celebrity culture and the American obsession with fame, CCS is our contemplation on why can’t we get enough and why we love not minding our own business.
Lady Gaga confirms that House of Gucci has finished filming. No word if the great-grandchildren of Guccio Gucci still have rightful concerns over the Ridley Scott film. Fashion and Lady Gaga is obviously, yes, but we’re still on the fence about Jared Leto.
Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune) and Edward Norton (Fight Club, American History X) join Daniel Craig in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2 sequel for Netflix.
As I mentioned last week’s Monday Post, imagine 2004’s Bennifer in their second act and come back together seventeen years later to vacation in Montana. Bennifer ran so BenAna could walk. It’s for sure a time warp.
The ugliest shoes are also the most coveted; the Crocs boom continues but not on my watch. Or feet.
MAC launches a limited-edition Disney Cruella Collection, which starts to sell on Thursday ahead of the film’s May 28 release.
Maya Rudolph is set to play the villain in Disney’s sequel to Enchanted, yes, yes, and yes.
Big surprise, Abraham Quintanilla is now writing a book about Selena’s life. Remember when he took Selena’s widower, Chris Pérez, to court (and won) because he violated an estate agreement that gives the Quintanilla family all the exclusive rights to Selena’s name, voice, photographs, story, and other rights in perpetuity.
Here are the latest teasers for your unadulterated pleasure.
🎥 First look at Mr. Corman
The highly anticipated 10-episode Apple Original comedy series created, directed, and starring Emmy and SAG Award-winner Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who also executive produces along with an A24 production) is set to premiere globally on August 6th via Apple TV+. The series marks a return to TV for Gordon-Levitt, who grew up on the small screen with roles on multiple series, most notably his co-starring turn on the NBC cult comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun.
🎥 behind-the-scenes featurette for Save Ralph
ICYMI, the Humane Society’s film short, Save Ralph, tackles the troubling issue of animal testing initially and unexpectedly—using the story of one bunny to shine a light on the plight of countless rabbits and other animals suffering at this very moment in laboratories around the world. Since its launch earlier this month, the Save Ralph campaign has captured animal lover’s and policymakers’ attention. It engages viewers to help ban animal testing of cosmetics once and for all.
The short features voice actors of the short film: Taika Waititi, Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron, Olivia Munn, and includes interviews with writer/director Spencer Susser (Hesher, The Greatest Showman) and frequent Wes Anderson/Tim Burton set designer and puppet maker Andy Gent (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch, The Corpse Bride).

More actors/studios speak out against the already historically problematic Golden Globes, continuing the protest against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s despicable behavior from the L.A. Times exposé. Joining Netflix, Amazon Studios, and Warner Media, Tom Cruise gave back his three Golden Globes. Meanwhile, Scarlet Johannson also slams the award show for its past behavior (which includes the time fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi groped her on live tv in 2006), which I remember watching in uncomfortable bewilderment. Mark Ruffalo tweeted his thoughts on Friday, “Now is the time to step up and right the wrongs of the past,” along with “Honestly, as a recent winner of a Golden Globe, I cannot feel proud or happy about being a recipient of this award. You must do better.” Now it’s official; NBC cancels the 2022 Golden Globes due to the ongoing HFPA controversy. A significant move on NBC’s behalf, your move HFPA.
Despite The Style Files being a TGIF feature, Megan Fox’s fits have been too much of a flex not to share. Since teaming up with stylist Maeve Reilly, Megan’s style seems more something lately. For instance, during her appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show (where she gave an impressive Britney impression), Megan wore a black Mugler blazer minidress with Jimmy Choo platforms which I love as a bold daytime tv appearance outfit. Below are my five favorites looks.
Also, THR profiled the exquisite decadence of Law Roach and his impressive league of extraordinary ladies of style with clients like Zendaya and Anya-Taylor Joy.
I’m currently on S4E12 of Gossip Girl, and since I dreamt of Nate Archibald, I think it’s time for a break. So this week, I’ll be watching documentaries and film screeners in my inbox, I will be reporting back.
Sam has the week off as she’s studying for finals, and that’s stressful enough; she’ll be back next week with a bloody nice surprise.
With love, your noughties, girl. 💘
